Abstract

The infrared emission features, at 3.3, 6.2, 7.7, 8.6, and 11.3 µm, are observed throughout the interstellar medium of our own and other galaxies. This review presents recent observational results on spectroscopy of the features, with an emphasis on the more complex picture of the features resulting from the higher spectral resolution and higher sensitivity currently available. Laboratory work on identification of the feature emitting material is abo reviewed, and different candidate materials for the features are compared.
