The Dust Properties of High-Mass Star-Forming Regions

Abstract

Using the IRAS database, we have constructed radial intensity profiles of nearby, high-mass, star-forming regions. The model calculations we use to try to fit these profiles require four (4) fixed parameters and four (4) free parameters. The 100 µm profiles can be well, but non-uniquely, fit. However, only one model is consistent with other, independently determined source properties, such as total mass and total 60 µm and 100 µm fluxes. In general, the best-fit parameters consistent with the 100 µm profiles yield models of the 60 µm, 25 µm, and 12 µm emission which do not fit the data.
