An Overview of the First Year of ESPRIT Project ANNIE
Project ANNIE is a all European collaboration of nine industrial and academic partners lasting three years and costing 5 million ECU. The project aims to evaluate Artificial Neural Networks and their applicability to real industrial problems. The industrial partners were selected for their expertise in solving problems in Control, Optimisation and Pattern Recognition, all of which were seen as potential application areas for Neural Networks. After one year the project has completed its evaluation phase and now moves into a demonstration phase. This paper describes the results of the theoretical study and the decisions made concerning demonstrators.
