Heat conduction and thermal stress problems

Abstract

The main goal in this chapter is to complete the presentation of various possible applications of formulations and numerical algorithms advocated in this book by giving some examples related to thermo-mechanical analysis of structures. We shall start with some illustrations of nonlinear, transient heat flow problems which will be followed by an analysis of thermal stresses in a plate deformed well into the plastic range. The chapter is completed by considering two examples of complex mechanical and thermal loads acting on a truss and on a cylindrical shell.
