Results of Aircraft Measurements of Transboundary Mass Fluxes of Air Pollutants over the Federal Republic of Germany

Summary

Airborne concentration measurements of selected pollutants were carried through during a period of two years from 1987 to 1988 over the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) to determine transboundary mass fluxes of SO2, NO, NOX, 03, and particles, and of some anion and cation components of the aerosol collected on filters. The concentrations of the trace gases were measured real-time on board the DLR Environmental Research Aircraft as well as meteorological parameters, while particle samples taken during the flights were analysed afterwards in the laboratory. In this paper examples of the results of concentration distributions along the boundaries of the Federal Republic of Germany and of transboundary mass fluxes of air pollutants are presented and discussed.
