Low-Mass Stars and Brown Dwarfs

  • Chapter
Baryonic Dark Matter

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIC,volume 306))

Abstract

Very low luminosity stars are thought to constitute an important component of the baryonic dark matter. Only recently has significant observational and theoretical progress been made in understanding the nature of these objects. With the advent of more powerful instruments such as the Hubble Space Telescope, a wealth of new observational information will be forthcoming. Thus it is imperative that refinements to theoretical models keep pace with the observational advances. In this paper, the current status of the theoretical and observational investigations of very low luminosity stars is reviewed.
