Abstract

The line emission occurring in the important spectral range 100-1100 Å from the ASDEX tokamak plasma is analysed with respect to atomic line identification, radiation losses, and physical relevance. Although plasma densities and temperatures do not differ substantially from those in stellar atmospheres, extreme deviations from corona equilibrium are a common feature in a tokamak. It is shown that in such cases line intensities should be interpreted in terms of fluxes of the particles rather than concentrations.
