Abstract

This paper reviews the relation between the thermal and nonthermal radio emission from galaxies and their star formation. In this discussion massive spiral and dwarf irregular galaxies are juxtaposed, and some important differences between the two species are disclosed in this context. It is suggested that nonthermal radio emission from normal galaxies can be used as a qualitative tracer of star formation.
