Inhibition of Carotenoid Biosynthesis and LHC II Assembly in Methyl Parathion Treated Wheat Seedlings

Abstract

Methyl parathion (MP) (O,O-dimethyl O-p-nitrophenyl phosphorothioate), a widely used organophosphorous insecticide and photosystem II (PS II) inhibitor (1), inhibited the chlorophyll and carotenoid contents, photosystem II activity and LHC II accumulation. The results are discussed in terms of the amount of carotenoids and the accumulation of LHC II.
