Abstract
Special interest in the variability of the H/e ratio comes from two sources:
-
(1)
Mechanistic aspects regarding the function of the cytochrome-b6-f-com-plex may be read out from changes of the H/e ratio as influenced by different parameters.
-
(2)
The H/e ratio determines the number of H+ which are available at the ATPase for the production of ATP. H/ATP ratios of 3 reported in the literature are mostly based on an assumed H/e ratio of 2 and any change of it would change the H/ATP ratio to the same extent. The experimental studies presented here extend our previous work on this subject [1]. Evidence is given that the H/e ratio varies between 2 and 3.
