Characterization of Monoclonal Antibodies Which Recognize the 33, 24, and 17 kDa Extrinsic Proteins of Photosystem II

Abstract

At least seven proteins appear to be required for photosynthetic oxygen evolution. These proteins, the 47 kDa apoprotein of CPa1, the 45 kDa apoprotein of CPa2, the D1 and D2 proteins, the extrinsic 33 kDa manganese-stabilizing protein, and the 9 and 4.5 kDa subunits of cytochrome b559, form an isolatable oxygen-evolving core preparation which exhibits high rates of water oxidation [1], Additionally, in vivo, at least two other proteins with the molecular masses of 24 and 17 kDa are associated with the oxygen-evolving complex (2).
