Abstract
Methane and uranium have the potential to reduce CO2 emissions from energy use. For two sets of scenarios, the reduction potential is estimated in relation to cumulated natural gas and uranium-oxide (U3 O8) requirements. Some methodological issues in reserve estimation are discussed; next, an overview is given of proved and unproved as well as speculative reserve estimates of methane and uranium. The geostatistical approach is discussed in some detail to highlight the nature of inference from known deposits onto unknown reserves.
