Abstract

In Chapter 2 we were concerned only with free electrons, for which mv = ħk, and we assumed that the effect of fields E and B on an electron moving with velocity v was given by the Lorentz force equation
$$ m\dot{v} = h\dot{k} = - e(E + v \times B) $$
