Dust in A Radio Galaxy At Z=4.25

Abstract

We describe rest-frame far-IR continuum measurements of 8C 1435+635, a radio galaxy at z = 4.25, obtained using the IRAM 30-m MRT and the 15-m JCMT. If the emission is thermal, then the derived dust mass lies in the range, 2 × 109 < Md < 8 × 107 M for 20 < Td < 100 K, or Md ~ 1.6 X 108 M for Td = 60 K, similar to that derived for 4C41.17, suggesting a molecular gas mass of between 4 × 1010 and 9 × 1011 M The upper limit obtained at 150µm (rest frame) limits T dust to < lOOK.
