Abstract
Sick sinus syndrome is an indication for pacemaker implantation in 30–50% of all patients who receive a pacemaker. In these patients tachycardia — atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, atrial tachycardia — is a frequent rhythmologic event [1]. About 20% of patients with sick sinus syndrome who receive a pacemaker are suffering from paroxysmal tachycardia. At the present time digitalis and antiarrhythmic drugs are used to suppress tachycardias or at least to prevent a critical increase of the heart rate.
