Contribution of crystal form/habit to colorant properties

  • Chapter
Physico-Chemical Principles of Color Chemistry

Part of the book series: Advances in Color Chemistry Series ((ACCS,volume 4))

Abstract

This chapter deals with the contribution of crystal form and crystal habit to colorant properties. Crystal form will be considered to include crystal modification and crystallinity, whereas crystal habit will be treated in terms of the shape of such particles. Inseparably connected with form and habit is the size of particles and this will, therefore, be treated simultaneously. Although by definition colorants should also include dyes and inorganic pigments, discussion herein is consciously focused on organic pigments. Consideration will be given only to those colorant properties which relate to conventional pigmentation of paints, plastics, man-made fibres, and printing inks.
