Abstract

The strongly non-Gaussian distribution of galaxies must be described with the full hierarchy of the N-point correlation functions, since none of the phase information is retained by the two-point function and its Fourier transform, the power spectrum. Higher-order statistics, however, are inherently more complex than two-point statistics, primarily because of the combinatorial explosion of terms and the large number of parameters involved. For this reason special techniques are necessary for the extraction of cosmologically important information.
