Abstract

Medical genetics is a fundamental course of preclinical medical education for undergraduate students of medical universities, which has important applications to clinical medicine, medical research and public health. It is important for medical students to identify genetic and genomic perspective on health and disease in their health professional’s career. In this paper, a teaching method which combines advanced information technology (IT) with case-based study (CBS) method is proposed and carried out in the course of medical genetics. Two classes in the same grade are chosen as the comparable subjects. The teaching reform is put into practice in one class and the other one with traditional curriculum. Examination and questionnaire are performed and analyzed at the middle and end of the course. The results show that the new curriculum is more successful than the traditional one and the reform is welcomed by more than 80 % students. Furthermore, the students’ motive of acquisition for knowledge has been inspired.
