An Integrated Service Model: Linking Digital Libraries with VLEs

Digital libraries and virtual learning environments (VLEs) have been designed, developed and maintained separately in China, so it is essential to explore a possible innovative service model that could add value to VLE communities and facilitate greater liaison between libraries and VLEs. This paper aims to bring a theoretical and conceptual framework to the practices of an integrated service of digital libraries and VLEs from the library community perspective. The integrated service model conceived could focus on two types of library service, the course-centered service and the discipline-centered service and supply users with following resources and services: course repository, reading list, subject resource list, disciplinary repository, one-stop access and subject librarian service.
