Abstract
This chapter presents an overview of Rasch Analysis in the human sciences. Particular attention is given to describing the chapter organization, so readers will advance as quickly as possible in their understanding of Rasch measurement (Why Did We Write This Book, Rasch Measurement, Goal/Organization/Scope of Chapters, Road Map Tips/Caveats). The chapter then presents a sample of research hurdles which can be handled by Rasch measurement (Survey Data Problems/Ordinal Data Problems, Missing Data Problems, Problems with Equating Pre-surveys and Post-surveys, Problems with Utilizing Judges/Examinees/Tasks, Problems Presenting/Communicating Research Results). Finally, we introduce readers to the Rasch software program (Winsteps), which is one of the most common programs used for conducting Rasch analysis. At the end of the chapter, we discuss how we utilize varying teaching techniques in the organization of the text. Readers are also introduced to Isabelle and Ted (two users of Rasch and Winsteps) as they discuss the key ideas at the start and end of the chapter. The chapter finishes up with Keywords and Phrases, Quick Tips, Data Files, References, and Additional Readings.
