Abstract
This chapter addresses the fundamental legal and medical issues involved with the phenomenon of genital cutting. The activities of existing international organizations dedicated to the eradication of harmful practices are highlighted, and a call is made for the formation of a new international and broad-ranging council that will harmonize the efforts of the existing organizations that address male and female circumcision as well as intersex issues.
