Book cover Cereal Genomics II

Abstract

The increased throughput of next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies made feasible large-scale analysis of DNA sequence variation at the whole genome level not only in model species but also in large cereal genomes. Here we present an overview of studies using NGS-based approaches for characterizing genetic variation in major cereal crops. These early studies demonstrated the power of NGS for providing insights concerning the evolutionary history of crop species, as well as genomic locations of genes underlying important agronomic traits and genomic regions subjected to selection during domestication and geographic adaptation.
