Abstract
We focus on the kinematic and static descriptions which are independent of the constitutive equations, which connect the strains (deformations in the body) with the stresses (internal forces in the body). For the sake of preventing misunderstandings regarding the issue of this I emphasize that, in order to find the solution to any static problem in solid or structural mechanics, we need the full set of equations, namely the kinematic, the static, and the constitutive equations.
