Time Synchronization by Double-Broadcasting for Wireless Sensor Networks

Time synchronization in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is necessary because time plays a crucial role for many WSN applications. Various time synchronization schemes for WSN have been proposed. We develop a new time synchronization scheme for WSN which is energy efficient by reducing communication overhead and has good performance in synchronization accuracy and scalability. Proposed synchronization protocol called Double-Broadcast Synchronization (DBS) uses double broadcasts per broadcast domain for synchronization and measuring delay, which resulted in good performance and low energy consumption. In this paper, the performance was evaluated and compared with existing schemes by simulation. The test result shows that proposed scheme has better energy efficiency and accuracy than existing protocols.
