Abstract

Spinal cord lipomas are rare lesions that represent less than 1% of all intraspinal tumors. Ninety percent of spinal lipomas are located in the lumbosacral area as components of spinal dysraphism, whereas non-dysraphic lipomas are almost always completely intradural. Pediatric intradural lipoma of the cervicothoracic spinal cord is a rare entity. To the best of our knowledge, up to now, only 41 cases have been presented in the literature. The typical neurological manifestation of this condition is a slowly progressing paresis. Magnetic resonance imaging is the test of the choice, having characteristic demonstration. Surgical treatment with bony decompression and subtotal resection gives satisfactory results. Aggressive resection may cause catastrophic results.
