Abstract

The story of Traverwood Branch Library is inextricably linked to the story of the City of Ann Arbor, Michigan. In 1824, Virginians John Allen and Elisha Rumsey registered claims for land on the hilly, wooded, banks of the Huron River. The claims were registered in Detroit, a fur trading post forty miles east of the new settlement plat.
