Abstract
The aspects and problems of ocean imaging by acoustic tomography methods are discussed. The ocean tomography scheme is regarded that overcomes some problems of common approaches. To reduce the cost and simplify the technical part of experiment the mode-to-mode correlations of ocean noise were proposed to use for realization of a passive tomography without expensive low frequency sources. The approach was also developed for acoustic modes selection from a narrow-band noise signal recorded by the short (without overlapping the entire waveguide) vertical antennas, curved by underwater currents. It was shown that information about the horizontal refraction of modes can be used to realize the tomography scheme which is weakly sensitive to the unknown displacements of antennas in a horizontal plane. In contrast to the known methods the reconstruction of ocean parameters in the regarded scheme is conducted in a unified approach which is provided by the expansion of all inhomogeneities upon the stripe basis. The results of numerical simulation for the ocean imaging in the regarded scheme are presented.
