Low-Carbon Concrete Using Ground Granulated Blast-Furnace Slag and Fly Ash

Abstract

In this study, the effect of ground granulated blast-furnace slag and fly ash on fresh properties, strength properties and durability was examined. In addition, the effect of those admixtures on the reductions of CO2 was clarified. From the test results, it can be concluded that when the ground granulated blast furnace slag and fly ash were used (1) the early strength of concrete decreased compared with the concrete without the admixtures, (2) regarding the fresh properties, the compressive strength of concrete at the age of 28 days and the durability, the same performance as concrete without admixtures was obtained. The amount of CO2 emission per 1 N/mm2 of concrete compressive strength decreased when the amount of fly ash and ground granulated blast-furnace slag increased.
