Abstract
Offshore concrete structures are durable and behave well, if properly built and properly designed. The importance of the early design phases is significant; this is when the competitiveness is established, and also the robustness of the structure to meet changes at later stages. The structures will float during stages. Redundancies are therefore expensive, and the meaning of robustness needs to be clearly understood. Generally, offshore concrete structures are heavily reinforced. Construction planning and management is important, and so is the close integration of construction and design. Offshore structures are subjected to very severe loadings, and increasingly more so as arctic frontiers are developed.
