Abstract
I reflect on my own experience with translating Hölderlin’s “Death of Empedocles.” I compare my experience to what we know about Hölderlin’s experience of translating Sophocles. In this context, I review Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe’s wonderful book Metaphrasis and reflect on his notion of translation.
