Abstract
In this final chapter, we summarize the major findings of the book’s countryspecific case studies on assortative mating. The focus of our discussion is on the role of the educational system as a marriage market in the course of educational expansion and the impact of social origin on the process of assortative mating in the life course. We are especially interested to examine the generality of the earlier findings from our German pilot study (see Chapter 2).
