Assessment of the Influence of River Runoff Regulation on Ecological Situation

The river runoff is regulated by the construction of water reservoirs, dams, and other hydrotechnical construction for allocation of water from riverbeds. These activities have a strong affect on the environment such as flooding of large areas of fertile land in river valleys, swamping, development of salination and erosion of water reservoir banks. The paper discusses negative effects caused by the Kapchagai Water Reservoir constructed on the Ili River to the environment in Kazakhstan, and in the Kiev Water Reservoir build up on the Dnepr River in the Ukraine.
