Radiation Pollution Impact On Development Of Vegetation Of Semipalatinsk Test Sites

Abstract

Investigations were conducted out in 1994-1997 and 1998-2000 on the territory of Semipalatinsk Test Sites. The objects of investigations are three main types of ecosystems: zonal (steppe), meadow and halophyte. They were selected on the plots of 40-170 (200) μR/H level of radiation pollution, 10-30 μR/H - on the control plots. Reaction of plant communities to radiation pollution under low dozes of irradiation must not be considered without influence of other factors of environment (Grodzinskii and oth., 1984; Dugyx, 1993). The factors of environment are burning out of vegetation for different purposes, destruction of surface soil layer, increased moisture in flood-lands of small rivers. Following changes in development of investigated communities conditioned by different radioresistance of plants and influence of factors mentioned above were revealed:
