Part of the book series: Tumors of the Central Nervous System ((TCNS,volume 1))

Abstract

Platelet-derived growth factor receptor A (PDGFRA), a type III receptor tyrosine kinase, is frequently up-regulated in cancer, constituting therefore an attractive pharmacological target. Several lines of evidence indicate that PDGFRA plays an important role in gliomagenesis. In the present chapter we will discuss the frequency and type of PDGFRA molecular alterations present in malignant gliomas. Furthermore, we will address the implication of such PDGFRA alterations in malignant glioma patients’ therapy response to PDGFRA targeted therapies.
