Abstract

A benchmark study of the one-dimensional stochastic elastic wave propagation is carried out. Three approaches which are the method of integral spectral decomposition, the Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov (FPK) equation and the Dyson integral equation are applied to solve several boundary value problems. The merits and the shortcomings of each approach became apparent, that is, one can choose an appropriate approach based on the above conclusions on the strong and weak sides of each approach. The discussed approaches cover all problems of the harmonic wave propagation in heterogeneous or stochastic media, therefore, by means of a preliminary analysis of the problem, one can choose an appropriate approach.
