Abstract

The data compiled for this book, both from the published statistical sources used for the various sets of indicators and from the work-based training survey of employees and employers, can be used to provide some insights into how effectively China’s TVET system is performing in terms of responding to the challenge of meeting the escalating demand for better-skilled labour. They can help identify areas of strength and weakness, necessary for targeting policies for development and improvement. Of course, this can only be a rather incomplete and partial assessment because it is limited to the published quantitative data that could be sourced and, for work-based training, it is based on survey data from a small case study. However, the findings do provide some indications about features of the TVET system and its performance in meeting the need.
