It is possible to state the laws of mechanics (Newton’s or Lagrange’s equations) under an equivalent and more concise form, but above all with a much broader impact, applicable to every domain of physics. This new formulation is named “Hamilton’s principle“ or “least action principle”. It can be stated in the following form:
