Amenorroe en oligomenorroe in de adolescentie

Samenvatting

Dit hoofdstuk heeft ten doel de huisartsen handvatten te geven hoe om te gaan met de vraag van een adolescent die nog niet heeft gemenstrueerd, of bij wie nauwelijks menstruatie is opgetreden na de menarche. Het maakt duidelijk waar de criteria liggen om snel te verwijzen, zodat een adequate behandeling in de tweede lijn op tijd kan worden ingezet. Tegelijkertijd is er soms ongerustheid waar dit niet nodig is. De huisarts moet daarom goed op de hoogte zijn van de fysiologie van de menstruatie ten tijde van de menarche en kort daarna. Ook wordt aandacht besteed aan de facetten die spelen rond menstruatie, zoals seksualiteit, vruchtbaarheid en bijvoorbeeld opvattingen over reinheid. Omdat dit soms een moeilijk bespreekbaar onderwerp is, ook nog vandaag de dag, kan de huisarts verwijzen naar websites die dit onderwerp verder toelichten.
