De titel van dit hoofdstuk, ‘De pijnlijke nagel’, is eigenlijk onjuist. Patiënten klagen soms over pijn in de nagel, maar die pijn wordt buiten de nagel opgewekt. De nagel zelf heeft immers geen zenuwen of zenuwuiteinden en kan daarom niet pijnlijk zijn.
