Samenvatting
Augmented reality (AR) is een technologie, waarbij het beeld van de omgeving van een gebruiker wordt aangevuld met informatie, tweedimensionale of driedimensionale beelden die door de computer zijn gecreëerd. Deze combinatie van beelden wordt geprojecteerd op een scherm in het zichtveld van de gebruiker, of op een in een bril ingebouwd beeldscherm. Door deze nieuwe technologie is het ook mogelijk om CT- of MRI-beelden te combineren met de anatomie van de patiënt, waardoor het voor een operateur zelfs kan lijken alsof hij door de patiënt heen kan kijken. Daarnaast is het mogelijk om operatieplanning te projecteren op de patiënt. Hoewel AR-technologie nog in de kinderschoenen staat, is het al wel duidelijk dat deze technologie door de snelle ontwikkelingen een grote rol zal gaan spelen in de medische en tandheelkundige wereld.
