Samenvatting
In dit hoofdstuk worden verschillende schematherapeutische technieken beschreven die expliciet zijn voor de directieve vorm van groepsschematherapie voor cliënten met een borderline persoonlijkheidsstoornis, ontwikkeld door Farrell en Shaw. Behandeling in een groep biedt cliënten de mogelijkheid om de Gezonde Volwassene te ontwikkelen binnen de context van een veilige sociale omgeving. In een groep leren cliënten essentiële vaardigheden die in een individuele therapie veelal moeilijker vorm te geven zijn. De ervaring van verbondenheid met anderen, doordat cliënten leren zichzelf open te stellen in de groep, is misschien wel de belangrijkste corrigerende ervaring die cliënten kunnen opdoen. Het werken met deze groepen blijkt in de praktijk uitdagend, leerzaam en leuk. Het aanbrengen van een balans tussen zwaarte en lichtheid in de sessies maakt dat in de behandeling van ernstige problematiek ruimte blijft bestaan voor humor en dat sessies veelal met plezier kunnen worden afgerond.
