Samenvatting
Bij mindfulnesstraining verbetert het waarnemings- en onderscheidingsvermogen van de zintuigen. Voor de visueel, auditieve en tactiele zintuigen is dit duidelijk aangetoond. Over het effect op ruiken en proeven is minder bekend. Ook de proprioceptie verbetert, wat binnen een fysiotherapeutische context van primair belang kan zijn. De bevindingen rond interoceptie van orgaansensaties zijn minder duidelijk. Een belangrijk onderdeel van waarnemen ligt op het vlak van het ‘levende lijf’. De patiënt leert accurater zijn eigen lichaam waarnemen en beleven. Niet dan alleen de fysieke aspecten, maar ook de emotionele, cognitieve en gedragsmatige aspecten die vermengd zijn in het lijfelijke waarnemen. Accurate empathie en juiste persoonlijke keuzen maken hebben hier hun basis. Op deze wijze ondersteunt waarnemen de zelfregulatie van de patiënt. Mindfulness verhoogt de sensitiviteit van de waarneming, maar beschermt de patiënt tegelijkertijd tegen de nadelige effecten van een te hoge sensorische verwerkingssensitiviteit.
