Voeding en de huid

Abstract

De huid is het grootste orgaan van het menselijk lichaam en staat voortdurend bloot aan veranderingen in het lichaam en in de omgeving, die de conditie en het functioneren van de huid beïnvloeden. In deze bijdrage wordt een overzicht gegeven van de huidige kennis omtrent de relatie tussen voeding en de huid. De meeste onderzoeken op dit gebied zijn gericht op vitamines, carotenoïden en meervoudig onverzadigde vetzuren en kunnen worden ingedeeld in:

  1. 1.

    behandeling van huidaandoeningen;

  2. 2.

    bescherming tegen schade door zonlicht;

  3. 3.

    invloed op de afweer.

Hoewel voedingscomponenten in hogere doseringen aantoonbare invloeden uitoefenen op de huid, bestaat er slechts weinig informatie over de effecten van consumptie van gemiddelde en lage doseringen gedurende lange tijd door gezonde mensen. Bovendien bestaan er nauwelijks gegevens over directe effecten van voedingscomponenten op basale eigenschappen van de huid, zoals vochtgehalte,talgproductie, zuurgraad en elasticiteit.
