Inleiding
In de NHG-Standaard Amenorroe worden richtlijnen gegeven voor de diagnostiek en behandeling van het uitblijven van menstruatie in de vruchtbare jaren. Meestal begint een meisje te menstrueren voor ze zestien is. Als ze op haar zestiende verjaardag nog nooit heeft gemenstrueerd, wordt dat primaire amenorroe genoemd. Van secundaire amenorroe is sprake als een vrouw gedurende zes maanden niet menstrueert terwijl ze daarvoor wel gewoon ongesteld was.
