Dit hoofdstuk beschrijft de positie van de Nederlandse bekkenfysiotherapie in vergelijking met de internationale situatie en hoe dit historisch is gegroeid. De Nederlandse bekkenfysiotherapeut heeft een eigen visie op het onderzoek en de behandeling van bekken- en bekkenbodemdisfuncties, vanuit het opleidingsniveau ontwikkeld, die in de werkwijze tot uiting komt. Het hoofdstuk wordt afgesloten met een beschrijving van de internationale contacten.
