Inleiding
Bètablokkers zijn per definitie middelen die de bètareceptoren kunnen bezetten en daarmee de werking blokkeren van stoffen die deze receptoren stimuleren, zoals adrenaline en noradrenaline. Zij blokkeren hierdoor de activiteit van het sympathisch zenuwstelsel. De farmacologisch correcte benaming is bèta-adrenoceptorblokkeerder. Omdat ‘bètablokker’ echter veelvuldig gehanteerd wordt, is hier voor deze term gekozen. In tabel 14.1 worden de belangrijkste farmacologische eigenschappen weergegeven van de in Nederland beschikbare bètablokkers.
