Samenvatting
In hoofdstuk 5 is erop gewezen dat door grondige gebitsreiniging niet elke gingivitis of parodontitis geneest . Iedere tandarts en mondhygiënist is bekend met onvoldoende respons na parodontale behandeling. Hiervoor zijn meerdere oorzaken aan te geven. De mondhygiëne van de patiënt kan ondanks uitgebreide instructie en intensieve begeleiding onvoldoende verbeteren. Het is ook mogelijk dat als er sprake was van professionele subgingivale reiniging, deze onvoldoende is geweest. Er bevinden zich nog te grote hoeveelheden bacteriën en/of tandsteen in de pockets waardoor de ontsteking niet is geëlimineerd. Oorzaken hiervoor kunnen zijn de anatomie van de pocket, de pocketdiepte, de locatie van de pocket (bijvoorbeeld furcatiegebieden), maar ook een onzorgvuldige subgingivale reiniging.
