Samenvatting
Het totale lichaamswater bedraagt ongeveer 60% van het lichaamsgewicht. Bij vrouwen is dit iets lager dan bij mannen, terwijl kinderen gedurende het eerste levensjaar een hoger lichaamswatergehalte hebben (65-75%). Bij het ouder worden neemt het totale lichaamswater af en daalt tot 45-50% boven de zestig jaar. Bij een jonge man van 70kg bedraagt het totale lichaamswater 42 liter (60%), waarvan 60% (25 liter) intracellulair is en 40% extracellulair (17 liter).
