Samenvatting
Er zijn twee soorten artsen: zij die betrokken zijn geweest bij een ernstig incident, en zij die betrokken gaan worden bij een ernstig incident. Wat wij u in dit hoofdstuk willen meegeven, is het besef dat u er altijd rekening mee moet houden dat medische handelingen anders kunnen verlopen dan u had verwacht en dat ze zelfs ernstig mis kunnen gaan. Niet om u onzeker te maken, maar om u juist voor te bereiden op het onverwachte, zodat u ook in die situaties het beste resultaat voor uw patiënt kunt bereiken. Dit hoofdstuk bestaat uit twee delen: een theoretisch deel over de achtergrond van het thema ‘patiëntveiligheid’ en een praktisch deel gericht op de vraag hoe u zelf kunt bijdragen aan veiligere zorg.
