Samenvatting
Volgens de NHG-standaard ‘acuut hoesten’ moet de huisarts bij hoesten, algeheel ziek zijn en koorts rekening houden met het bestaan van longontsteking: community-acquired pneumonie (CAP). Zoals elke pneumonie kan CAP gepaard gaan met bacteriëmie. Bacteriëmie wordt geacht te kunnen leiden tot endocarditis, in het bijzonder bij individuen met een verhoogd risico zoals een hartafwijking met hemodynamische consequenties. Er is nog geen goed epidemiologisch bewijs voor de invloed van bacteriëmie op het ontstaan van endocarditis.
